第一回日本グランプリにも参戦し、日本のモータースポーツ、モータリゼーションと共に生きてきたレーシングドライバーでもあり、ジャーナリストとしても著名。スポルトファーシューレの監修も手がける。

1941年生まれ　第１回日本グランプリに出場。その後日産、トヨタ、いすゞのワークスドライバーとして活躍。トヨタ2000GTの72時間連続走行世界記録挑戦に参加。いすゞ自動車からもアスカディーゼルの記録挑戦も行う。初の鈴鹿1000kmレースで福沢幸雄と組んで優勝。チュードルカレラ6でも再び鈴鹿1000kmレースで優勝。ポルシェとの縁も深い。モータリング・アクロス（ドライビングスクール）やJRP（ジャパンレンポルシェ）のドライビングスクールの校長を20年近く続け、現在ではポルシェクラブ六本木のドライビングスクール校長。　初心者に優しく、楽しいサーキットドライビングを教えるのには定評がある。現在は、モータージャーナリストとして雑誌、Car World（http://www.carworld-jp.info/）、FM世田谷、栃木放送などでラジオのパーソナリティも務める。

マンタイレーシング総帥であり、ポルシェワークスチーム（UPS　Jr）監督も務め、いわばポルシェワークスドライバー育ての親。自身、初代DTM最多優勝ドライバーでもある。

マンタイモータース、マンタイレーシングを率いるオラフ・マンタイはレーシングドライバーとして１９７４年のデビュー以来、ツーリングカーの名手として名をはかせ、初代ＤＴＭ（ドイツ・ツーリングカー・選手権）における最多優勝ドライバー（総合優勝２２回）として一躍有名になりました。その後ＤＴＭメルセデス、セミワークスチームの監督としての活動や、多くのレーシングドライバーの育成などを手がけてきました。２００６年、２００７年のニュルブルクリンク２４時間耐久レースではチーム監督としてマンタイレーシングチームを２年連続総合優勝に導き、２００６年スパ２４時間耐久レースと２００６年以降のスーパーカップではポルシェからの依頼により、ポルシェワークスチーム監督を務めています。また、かのワルター・ロール氏をしてニュルブルクリンクマイスターと言わせたニュルブルクリンクスペシャリストでもあります。

Impressions from Japan

It's been nine years since my last race in Japan, when I drove the Freisinger Porsche 993 GT2 in the 1000km race at Fuji together with Bob Wollek.

Japan hasn't changed much, and I still feel very much at home in the Land of the Rising Sun. This was my first trip there not connected with a race! For the Porsche Club Roppongi we took part in the first ice event on Lake Megamiko.

Our journey from Tokyo to Nagano in a RHD Heico Volvo V70 T5 was a special experience. The speed limit on Japanese motorways is a mind-blowing 80 kph...

Thanks to Japanese lady team mate who, with expert preparation, located all speedtraps and also the mobile "interceptors", we reached our destination in a timely fashion anyway J Our top "autobahn" speed, as well as our average cruising speed with the turbocharged Heico projectile, shall remain confidential! Suffice it to say that a Porsche club member who was following us in his 996 also enjoyed the trip but had trouble keeping up...

I got a great kick out of organising this event with a class team of people. The response was unbelievable: roughly 50 Japanese drivers travelled to the hills of Nagano for the three day event. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, as well as the Japanese mentality and view of life. We had a lot of fun together. Then I travelled on to Hong Kong to meet up with a few Gemballa Porsche drivers. I have put together a few impressions of my Asian journey, ? enjoy!

ニュルブルクリンク24時間耐久レースにおいてマンタイレーシングに史上初の四連勝をもたらしたマンタイレーシングのエースドライバー。ニュル最速のポルシェ使い

In 1992, aged 18, Marcel Tiemann began his formal racing career by finishing top of his class at the “ADAC racing school“ which earned him a spot in the “ADAC-Formula Junior Series". In order to gain more experience he also decided to participate in the “Formula König" series in Germany. After winning top honors at the “Pilot Elf Driving School", he made his entry into the “German Formula Renault Series" as a “Pilot Elf". He also raced in the “European Formula Renault Championship", where he finished 2nd and 3nd in the german round. In 1994 he won his first career championship at the age of 22 in the “German Formula Renault Series“ In 1995, he decided to pursue racing as a career and raced in the “German Formula 3 Championship“. In 1996 he quickly captured a victory in in the “Formula 3 Grand Prix of Monaco“. Overall, he finished 4th in the “German Formula 3 Championship“. In the season of 1997, Tiemann competed in the “FIA-GT Championship“ for Mercedes-Benz and Team-AMG. Sharing car with Alessandro Nannini, they finished 4th in the championship. In 1998 Tiemann competed once again in the "FIA-GT Championship" with Team Persson and finished 6th.

デビューの翌年にドイツ　フォーミュラ　フォードでシリーズチャンピョンにつき、近年では2003年全日本GT500でシリーズチャンピョンを獲得している日本語が堪能なドイツ人ドライバー。

4歳でレースデビューし、94年に来日。同年全日本F3でシリーズチャンピオン。 95年から全日本GT選手権、96年からFニッポンに参戦。ル・マン24時間耐久にも98、99年と参戦した。2005年からはSuperGTにTEAM NISMO Z 22号にて参戦。ミハエルはプロのレーサーとして、フォーミュラ・ワンやチャンプカー・シリーズなど、これまで多くのレースを勝ち抜き、輝かしい成績を長年収めてきている。レーサーとしての頭角を現すと、すぐにハイダウンフォース、シングルシートマシンに乗り換え、初参戦のオペル･ロータスチャンピオンシップで優勝を手にした。それ以来、ニッサン、アウディ、オペル、トヨタなど大手メーカー所有のファクトリーチームに欠かせないドライバーとなっている。ミハエルはスポンサーやメーカー、チームが、モータースポーツをコストエフェクティブで非常にダイナミックなマーケティング戦略として利用しようという意図を十分に理解している。彼のテスト兼開発ドライバーとしての経験は、彼と共に仕事をした者全てをうならせ、またそのレーステクニックと着実に予選をものにしていく腕前から、彼の計り知れない才能を、間違いなく予感できる。
